Domestic Wastewater Treatment

Vincent D. Reynolds, MBA, P.E.

Course Outline

Wastewater treatment plants are designed to treat water by biological, chemical and mechanical means before being released back into the environment as drinking water.

This course will provide information regarding the Domestic Wastewater Treatment. The course materials are based solely on the engineer manual “Domestic Wastewater Treatment” as found on the website of the Army Corps of Engineering.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.

Learning Objective

At the conclusion of this course, the student would have learned the following:

Intended Audience and Benefit

This course is intended for anyone with an interest in wastewater treatment, environmental engineering, water resources, and hydraulics anyone wanting to know more information regarding Domestic Wastewater Treatment

Course Introduction

Wastewater treatment plants are designed to treat water by biological, chemical and mechanical means before being released back into the environment as drinking water. Generally the types of water to be treated is from sanitary sewer lines however some industrial waste may be admitted to wastewater treatment plants.

In this course several different design parameter will be discussed such as, biological oxidation, chlorine demand, organic loading, primary treatment, and secondary treatment among others.

The placement of wastewater treatment facilities in relation to populated areas will also be discussed.
