Alabama Standards of Practice for Surveying

Course Outline

Effective July 1, 2018, professional land surveyors licensed in Alabama shall earn a minimum of four professional development credit hours on the Standards of Practice of Surveying in the State of Alabama every two years. This course is designed to help you meet this continuing education requirement. It covers the Alabama Standards of Practice for Land Surveying and Minimum Standard Detail Requirements for ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys. The latter includes Table A - Optional Survey Responsibilities and Specifications and Accuracy Standards for ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys. Additional reading materials from another state and related links are also provided as references.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Continuing Education Requirements

Alabama Land Surveyors are required to complete 30 PDHs every two years. Each biennial renewal cycle ends on December 31, odd years. A maximum of 15 PDHs may be carried over from the previous cycle.

Effective July 1, 2018

For professional land surveyors, the continuing professional education requirements shall include a minimum of four (4) professional development credit hours on the Standards for Practice of Surveying in the State of Alabama every two years and one (1) professional development credit hour on ethics every year; however, the total number of professional development credit hours required of professional land surveyors by the board shall not increase overall because of this requirement.

A new professional land surveyor shall complete the Standards for Practice of Surveying in the State of Alabama credits within two years and complete the ethics credit within one year of initial licensure. Credit for these courses shall count toward the succeeding annual or biennial continuing professional education requirements.
