Standards Pertaining to Valves Used in the Oil & Gas Industry

Peter Smith, HNC (Mech)

Course Outline

This is a 2 hour course utilizing an extract from my book "The Valve Selection Handbook", published by Elsevier and now in it's 5th Edition. The section chosen is, Appendix C - "Standards pertaining to valves".

Each valve specified for the Oil & Gas Industry, will be covered by several standards, that deal with design type, construction, dimensions, end type, inspection, testing and numerous other characteristics.

These documents are essential to establish the integrity of the valve that has been specified.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Learning Objective

The objective is to familiarise the student which standard applies to a particular valve type or group of valves for the following:

Outside of this course the Student should gain access to these standards and review their contents. It is impossible to memorise the data included in these standards, however the Student should be familiar with he topics covered within their pages.

Intended Audience

Piping Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Project Engineers, Procurement Managers and Project Buyers, QA/QC Personnel, Inspectors.

Benefit to Attendees

A student who is familiar with the numerous valve standard, will feel confident when specifying a valve for a specific function and the will be in a position to access the necessary data from within the text of the standard.

To guarantee that the correct valve is specified, it is essential that the correct standards are quoted for the design, construction, inspection, testing and installation.
