Material Data Sheets for the Construction of Piping Systems

Peter Smith, HNC (Mech)

Course Outline

This is a 3 hour course using the NORSOK Standard M-630 - "Material data sheets for piping".

The NORSOK Standards are a set of standards and specifications that have been adopted by numerous major Operators in theNorwegian North Sea sector and other territories. They are based on recognised international industry codes and standards.

NORSOK Standards are aimed at the Offshore, upstream sector of the Oil and Gas industry and a vast majority of the data sheet in M-630 are based on ASTM material.

There are minor modifications to the base ASTM standards.

It is impossible for a Piping Engineer to try and remember all the data on material, but it is essential that the basics are understood and that access to a hard copy of the specification is close at hand

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Learning Objective

The objective is to understand the most commonly used materials of construction for piping systems.

The Course will cover:

Intended Audience

Piping Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Project Engineers, Procurement Managers and Project Buyers, QA/QC Personnel, and Inspectors.

Benefit to Attendees

An Engineer will benefit from having the basic knowledge of the numerous types and grades of material used in the construction of piping systems.

Course Introduction

It is essential that all Piping Specifying Engineer is aware of the material currently available to construct piping systems and their various individual characteristics, testing requirements and certification.

Course Content

In this course you are required to study Norsok Standard M-630 - "Material data sheets for piping".

You need to open or download these documents to study this course.

Course Summary

A Piping Specifying Engineer has numerous types of materials of construction available to him and they must be certain that selected components are suitable technically. The materials of construction are covered by a multitude of standards that cover chemical composition, testing, inspection and certification and the Piping Engineer will have to refer to these documents on occasion.

Quiz

Once you finish studying the above course content, you need to take a quiz to obtain the PDH credits.
