Course Outline

This 2 PDH course can be used to calculate the: Volume and weight of a range of bulk materials transported by screw conveyors and feeders.

The calculations within this live spreadsheet will facilitate the initial design and engineering of many types of screw conveyors and feeders. When various factors are typed into the Input cells, Excel will calculate results automatically. In addition, the powerful tool, "Goal Seek" can be used to optimize each Calculation.

Screw conveyors are used to convey many different materials. Bulk materials are: moved, distributed, elevated, heated, cooled, and collected in screw conveyors. Helical augers are used in: snow throwers, mining equipment, combine harvesters, balers, fertilizer spreaders, and many other applications. There are three sections in this short and to the point course:1. Screw Conveyor Capacity and Power2. Screw Conveyor Dimensions3. Screw feeders and Mixers

The course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Learning Objective

At the conclusion of this course the student will have:

seen illustrations of typical screw conveyors, feeders, and mixers;
calculated the volume of bulk materials transported by screw conveyors;
calculated the volume of bulk materials transported by screw feeders;
calculated the volume reduction transported by inclined screw conveyors;
estimated dimensions of screw conveyors and feeders; and
use Excel's "Goal Seek" to optimize the engineering and design of screw conveyors and feeders.
