Course Outline

This course will introduce you to the major requirements of professional instrumentation project management. It will instruct you in the steps employed to establish a well organized documentation system. The course makes use of spreadsheet tools in Microsoft Excel and you must be able to download ZIP files and open in spreadsheets. The I&C (Instrument & Control) discipline probably requires the most intensive set of documents next to the actual project controls themselves. It is important to have a thorough understanding of the various documentation requirements. Some of the documentation is discussed in depth in separate courses. The course will enable the student to setup a complete instrument index that will result in a successful project at its conclusion.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Course Introduction

Of the three major categories of projects: residential, commercial and industrial, the industrial usually require some types of instrumentation and control (I&C). If it is a chemical, pharmaceutical, synthetic fiber, plastic, pulp & paper, or waste treatment facility it will require considerable instrumentation by a variety of manufactures. Even the smallest of these projects usually mandates bringing a Lead or Project I&C person into the project. This course will instruct the student as to his responsibilities and also his limitations as part of the project team.
