Professional Ethics

John C. Huang, Ph.D., PE, LEED AP

Course Outline

In order to safeguard the life, health, property and welfare of the public and to maintain integrity and high standards of skills and practice, each licensed profession usually adopts a Code of Ethics or Professional Conduct, which provides a basic guide for professional conduct and imposes duties on the licensed professionals, with respect to society, employers, clients, colleagues, the profession, and himself/herself. A violation of the Code in the practice of a profession constitutes unprofessional conduct and is considered grounds for disciplinary action by a licensing board/professional association against the licensee/member. In this course, we will discuss the basic concepts and terminology related to ethics, and review the Code of Ethics adopted by engineering societies such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.
