Design of Residential Buildings in High Wind Areas

John C. Huang, Ph.D, PE, LEED AP

Course Outline

In this webinar, we will review the design and construction process required for residential buildings (one to three-story) to withstand high winds during hurricanes. In particular, we will examine various failure modes due to high wind, evaluate the continuous load path, and discuss the effective construction methods and techniques necessary to prevent failures due to wind. The course content is based primarily on the FEMA Publication 55 - Coastal Construction Manual (4th Ed., 2011). Additional references and resources will be provided during the webinar.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.
