Frank Li, Ph.D. This course introduces the fundamentals of material science to engineers, architects and contractors. The course materials are based entirely on Volume 1 of the U.S. Department of Energy's Fundamentals Handbook - Material Science, which provides the necessary fundamentals training to ensure a basic understanding of the structure and properties of metals. The handbook includes information on the structure and properties of metals, stress mechanisms in metals, failure modes, corrosion, and the characteristics of metals that are commonly used in construction and manufacturing. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.
