Concepts and Options for Determining Energy and Water Savings (M&V Protocol)

George E. Thomas, PE

Course Outline

The purpose of this course is to familiarize Energy Engineers with various best practice techniques available for determining and verifying results of energy efficiency, water efficiency, and renewable energy efficiency. Energy conservation measures covered herein include fuel saving measures, water efficiency measures, load shifting and energy reductions through installation or retrofit of equipment, and/or modification of operating procedures. The information in this course is written for the individual who is knowledgeable in basic engineering to provide guidance on energy use, energy costs and savings magnitude, various energy technology-specific requirements, and risk.

This course includes a multiple choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.

Learning Objective

This course will review the following topics to include basic energy and water savings concepts and options.

Intended Audience

This course would be of interest to Facility Engineers, Environmental Engineers, Energy Managers, Energy Services Contractors, and Energy Consultants.

Course Introduction

This course provides an overview of current best practice techniques available for determining and verifying results of energy efficiency, water efficiency, and renewable energy efficiency. The information and techniques may be used by facility engineers, design engineers, energy managers, and stationary engineers to assess and improve facility performance. Energy conservation measures covered herein include fuel saving measures, water efficiency measures, load shifting and energy reductions through installation or retrofit of equipment, and/or modification of operating procedures. The information in this course is intended to provide guidance on energy use, energy costs and savings magnitude, various energy technology-specific requirements, and risk.

Course Content

This course is based entirely on the Publication DOE/GO-102002-1554, March 2002 International Performance Measurement & Verification Protocol. You will be quizzed on the document in its entirety.
