Safety and Health Requirements - Part 2 of 3

Course Outline

The first and foremost fundamental canon in the NSPE Code of Ethics for Engineers requires that design professionals hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public in the performance of their professional duties. This course provides information and guidance on the safety and health requirements related to the construction industry. The course materials are based on the US Army Corps of Engineers' Safety and Health Requirements Manual. The provisions of this manual implement safety and health standards and requirements contained in OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926, 29 CFR 1960, 30 CFR 56, Executive Order 12196, DODI 6055.1, DODI 6055.3, AR 40-5, AR 385-10, AR 385-11, AR 385-40, and FAR Clause 52.236-13. This manual is an excellent reference book for anyone in the construction industry, including engineers, architects, contractors and construction managers. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials.

Learning Objective

At the conclusion of this course, the student will:

• Be familiar with the general requirements regarding the construction safety and health, and
• Have a better understanding of the government safety and health regulations.
