Learning Units (Hours)
Ruben A. Gomez, PE
It is time for us engineers to stop looking at a building as an inanimate concrete, wood or steel framework and begin to see it as a virtual living and flexible machine that would respond to the vibratory stimulations coming from either the forces of Nature or the actions and misgivings of mankind.
Although the unleashed forces of an earthquake or a hurricane cannot be stopped with our present means, however, we can mold and shape our buildings to timely flex and sway in concert with those forces of Nature, in such a way that we can minimize harm, damage, as well as loss of life, limb and property.
This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
